14 year old has acl reconstruction

My son had an allograft ACL reconstruction 9 months ago at age 14. He is doing summer weights and basketball camp now. He still has trouble running fast and his ankle seems to hurt a lot.

Any suggestions?

Should he work thru the pain or rest his knee when he has pain?

Still doing any rehab?
by: Bart - SII

Is your son still doing any type of rehabilitation, either with a therapist or on his own at home? He may still have some strength deficits, or mobility restrictions that could be contributing to his continued pain. Specific exercises to work on balance and flexibility are important to continue even after returning to sports.

If he is having a lot of pain, I would recommend returning to the doctor just for a recheck and to make sure everything is progressing normally. Playing with some minor discomfort is probably ok, however, it shouldn't be anything that is limiting his activities.

Hope this helps - comment back with other questions.
