14-yr-old girl suffers right knee injury during basketball game

My daughter injured her right knee yesterday playing basketball. They will not do an MRI until Monday (4 days after the injury). We are worried sick that this is going to be serious and possibly affect her future career.

When she landed after a shot she stepped on another girl's foot and I saw her knee collapse. She says she heard it pop. Both I'm sure are not good signs. The swelling isn't too bad, and actually her pain today is better!

Does anyone think this is definitely an ACL tear, or could it possibly be a meniscus? We are praying for the shortest possible time out for her as she is just devastated right now. Thanks for your help!

My thoughts

My son had the same type of thing happen to his knee, but he fell from his bike. He is also 14 years old. He tore his acl, but you really need to wait for the MRI results to find out about your daughter. Please let me know about the results. Good luck to her and you.

ACL tear
by: Anonymous

My saughter tore her ACl when she was 14 playing soccer. At 14 she went down on the field and hurt her other knee. She heard the pop and collapsed. We all thought for sure it was her ACL, but it ended up being her knee cap dislocating. She is doing fine now. If it is her ACL good luck!!! It is very hard mentally on young athletes, but in the end I believe it made her a stronger person and athlete.
