5th Metatarsal Fracture - (brusising after surgery)

by Megan
(Missouri)

I displaced my 5th Metatarsal and had surgery the next day with a screw placement. It has been 1 week and my toes are all black and bruised. Is that normal??

It is normal

The bruising you have in your toes is from the surgery - the internal bleeding that occured - that blood is now moving toward the surface, and gravity pulls it down to the toes. Nothing to worry about and it should start to go away in a few days or a week or two - it will also likely change colors from black to blue to purple with shades of yellow and green. Take pictures!
