A Sprained anke?

by Greg
(Canada)

Hello, 3 weeks ago I hit my head and fell backwards onto my back.At the same time I had a sharp pain in my ankle.I thought it was broken because the pain was so intense.I took my shoe off and it swelled right away and the pain multiplied by what felt like 500%.

I am the type to not go to the doctor so I decided to give it a few days.Today I can walk with a limp only but can rotate my ankle and move it up and down. When I do this though I get a pain in my calf and shin and my ankle also cracks and snaps almost every time. Also it has started to bruise 2 days ago.

I was hoping to get some help as to see if this is normal because I am a seasonal worker and walking is part of the job and I can only walk with a limp after 3 weeks.

Thank you and any help is appreciated.

You really should see a doctor and have an X-ray. The possibility of a small fracture is definitely real. If nothing else, you will know for sure that you didn't break anything.

Also, rehabilitation to work on improving your balance and strength is going to be important to restore your normal function and to prevent continued pain months or years later.
