i tore my acl in oct 2008 during rugby 7s training, didnt do anything about it and rested it for 2weeks.. actually played rugby on it for 4 weeks afterwards although it was a pretty hairy experience and i knew something was up.
in sept 2009 i saw a doc and had a mri etc, confirmed it was completely torn.
however the doc/physio said it was a borderline repair job, they gave me a brief on what exercises / pt to do and i actually played rugby 7s on it in dec same year.. mind you i did ALOT of work in the gym ...squats etc you have to beast the hamstrings!!. Having said that i do have disaportionately strong legs - so i guess i had a head start.
im toying with the idea of having surgery this year, although i reckon i could probably actually get by but would never be 100pct confident playing.. tricky decision.
squats and one leg stance on a wobble board, thats my advice.. if you dont want to have surgery.. and not everyone has to...bear that in mind before you let those money grabbing doctors at you!!
good luck!
