adams acl recon story

(Blackpool England)

I had an acl on 15th Dec 09 and after a night in hosp sent home fully mobile with no splint or crutches as it was " too slippy".
All seemed ok until i had to redress the wound because of a jam like substance oozing from the dressing err!
I had the staples removed from both graft site and the one on the lower leg and the graft site, 6 staples opened up immediately. The nurse put on some steri strips to hold the wound together. The day after boxing day i decided to have a bath and then re dress the wound myself as it was sunday and xmas hols nobody about so i removed the dressing and the wound had opened up despite the steri strips and was now gaping and swolen, it was then that i pressed gently on the swollen area and my leg gave up its bounty, about a tablespoon of clotted blood rolling down my leg , it knocked me quite sick, after calling the wife to help clean up the "stuff" i then was left with a hole the size of the end of your thumb.
Cutting out details of doctors visits and daily dressings and packing with aquacell I am still left with , now 16th Jan 2010 ,a hole that has grown to 20mm deep and 30mm long by 18mm wide. I have had 2 swabs with negative results still had a corse of flucloxicilin , the surgeon who seems to think all ok, then another course of ciprofloxacin, in fact im going to see surgeon tomorrow, and still daily trips to get it dressed and packed.
I have had no contact from physio dept even after 2 letters from doc to them but with an open wound I dont know if thats a good idea.
I feel ok no fever, walking not too bad with very little pain, I have quite bad muscle wastage and can bend by knee to about 80 degrees, but worried about having an open wound that seems not to be healing and will take 2 months to heal when it starts to so im told.
I am 45 and very fit and healthy generally thinking I would be back to my joinery job about 4 weeks but thats not likely.
Has anyone had similar post acl problems.
