Alison's ACL story

Hello, I have just passed my 7-week post-surgery and I've been having ups and downs..I got off my crutches real fast but I developed a lot of scar tissue which is preventing my flexion and extension. Last time we measure in physio I was at 110 degrees flexion but I think I am at slightly more now...My doctor gave me until Feb 19 to get from 0-130 or he said he'll do a MUA (manipulation under anesthesia) - I really want to avoid that but I have my doubts, I feel like my rehab is going really slow. But I did just notice a little improvement, very slight but my knee felt less stiff this morning than usual. I can pretty much walk normally, have a bit of trouble straightening it all the way but I can put most of my weight on it now. I've been doing squats and heel slides and trying to push it, but it's pretty painful. My doctor prescribed me more painkillers to use when I go to physio so I can push it harder.

Any advice on working through scar tissue?

A good thing!

Alison, I "feel your pain" I'm in the same boat and doing everything I can to break it up on my own. I was even prescribed dynamic splints for both ext. and flex. Min. progress.
From what I have been reading tho, MUA sounds like a good thing. Guess we shouldn't sweat it too much. We're doing all we humanly can, right?
Hang in there! I wish you loads of luck healing.

Good Luck

I can feel your pain. Unfortunately my doctor could not manually break my scar tissue up so he had to perform another surgery. I am 4-months out from the last surgery and still having problems with flexion and extension. I pray that your recovery and luck is better than mine. I feel like I will never get back to what I was before my ACL/Miniscus surgery. It gets VERY frustration. I have small children and cannot even get in the floor (crawl) comfortably. I am walking better now, not as much of a limp. I am still wearing my brace locked in at zero to help with the extension. My flexion is only at around 110 (I think) without the assist of another person, and then we don't get it much further. Good luck.
