Andrea's acl story

It's been 5 months since my acl and meniscus repair surgery. My physiotherapist says that i'll been done with the physio in a month, but i really don't feel like i'll be ready. My quads are still quite a bit smaller than my right leg, i often feel pain under my kneecap, and my knee feels stiff if i'm sitting too long. Is this normal? am i not doing the rehab correctly?

same surgery

Hi Andrea,

The same has been done to me - ACL recon (patellar graft) and meniscectomy. Today is the first monthaversary of my operation. I still can't fully bend my knee. I can only do 55 degrees with the help of my therapist and that is very very very painful. I am getting really depressed. I feel like I'm never going to walk normally again. And I dread therapy now. I have a session tomorrow and I feel like I'm going to scream and cry in pain again.:(

Okay great! I'm 17 years old and I am pretty serious with basketball, so i just want to return back to normal. But there's also this weird grinding feeling at the top of my knee when I'm doing the wall sit. It doesn't hurt but it just doesn't seem right. It happens when i lean against the wall and move down to a sitting position.

5 months

This is pretty normal. Often, the goal of PT is to restore normal daily life activities. Sometimes the focus will expand into returning to sports or activities, but many times, that is left to each patient to reach on their own.

At 5 months, it isn't uncommon to have some occasional pain, some weakness, and definitely atrophy when comparing your quad muscles.

ACL Injury Solutions may be a good supplement to your PT home program once you are discharged, as it is a comprehensive program designed to restore all of the function of the lower extremity after ACL injury.
