Ankle fracture, torn ligament or other type of injury?

Left ankle, swollen on topside, bruised on other

I fell and twisted my left ankle almost a week ago. I felt a pop when I fell. Now a week later it's still a little swollen and bruised on the opposite side. I can walk on it so I don't believe it to be broken, but if my foot turns inward as well as touch the bottom of the ankle, it is painful. Could I have fractured it or torn something that may need medical attention or could it be something I can continue to take care of on my own? I probably should have had it x-rayed, but I don't want to pay around $400 for one x-ray which is what the local hospital charges.

Thanks Bart. I appreciate your advice. I have since scheduled an appt.
I hope others can learn from my experience. Go to the Dr. right away so no other damage is done or so it doesn't heal incorrectly and cause more problems down the road.

You should definitely get this looked at by your doctor. There is always the possibility of a fracture, and being able to walk on it doesn't mean that is isn't broken. Aside from an x-ray, your doctor can determine the extent of the injury, and give you the best course of action for a good recovery.
