Ankle Pain and Swelling (after car accident)

I was in a high speed head on car accident 6 months ago, on top of all
the other injuries I sustained I severely dislocated and fractured my
right ankle, it didn't need emergency surgery at the time
but now after 5 months of intense physical therapy,
my ankle is still painful and swollen and there is like a rubber band
snapping all the time when I walk, on the outside and behind my ankle,
and I notice that the muscle in my leg above my ankle on the
outside is indented in,
and the muscles behind my ankle feels stiff and its hard to walk without
a limp. and I have discoloration in my foot...it looks red and blotchy all
the time, the longer I am on my feet the worse the swelling and pain get
also I have numbness on my heel and bottom of my big toe. My surgeon said
that surgery wouldn't benefit me. Because there where so many issues with
my ankle. Now, he said that he can go in there and clean around the
injured tissues but only gives me a 50/50 chance that it will make my
pain go away.
