Ashley's ACL Surgery

by Ashley
(Texas)

I tore my acl playing volleyball( our first scrimmage too). I jumped up for a block, when i landed i felt a pop in my knee, and it felt like it gave out on me. The next thing i knew, I was on the floor crying. It was the worst pain i ever felt. I went to the doctor and he ordered MRI's. When i went back to the doctor, he said i tore my acl. I felt tears start to run down my face as those words came out of his mouth. i thought it couldnt be true. I was on varsity for the second year, my sophmore year and i just got back from softball nationals in South Dakota. I even have a college looking at me for softball. I had surgery September 1st. i was really scared, but i really didnt feel anything till after the surgery. I hated not being able to do anything for myself, i would get real depressed and cry for no reason. i missed out on 2 weeks of school, and i got really behind. i just was discouraged all the time, about school, not being able to be independent, and not being able to just go outside to shoot hoops. i went from an athlete to a bum. it was really difficult on my part. when i started going to therapy i got beind really fast. my range in motion was horrible. SO LISTEN TO YOUR PHYSICAL THERAPIST!!!i eventually caught up and now im running on the track and slowly getting my knee stronger. so dont get discouraged it happens to everybody, its very common to tear your acl. there is an afterlife :)
