Ashley's Neck Injury

I was playing soccer against a certain team a couple of years ago, when I was in the 7th grade, and I was the only one on my team that scored so far in this game and a person on my team told me I made it look like it was nothing.

I did not even know what was coming but I got passed the ball and i started running down and one girl leg swept me and the other pushed me and I landed straight on my neck. I got up and I was really dizzy.

I tried to run but it hurt and I kept holding my neck and I collapsed and I could not move and since it was my neck they called the ambulance and held my head still. The next thing that i know i am on an ambulance with a back board and a neck collar and a tube going into my nose to help me breath.

Well in the hospital they took tons and tons of x-rays and it was kind of a long visit once they took the x-rays of my neck. I thought that we had been there for a long time... we had been there for almost 4 hours. My neck had a strain and a small chip in it. My back had nothing wrong with it.

I thought that I was going to scream when I heard about my neck. I was scared and I did not know what was going to happen.

They gave me a prescription to get some pain relievers and they gave me an appointment card to go and get my neck checked.

About a month after I first had my neck checked I started PT and they got my neck moving great. It was so sore at first though and then I was able to play soccer the next year after lots of Physical thearpy.

This all happened to a young kid!

Wow, that is so scary!

I would have wanted to scream too if I had a chip in my neck...you must have been terrified.

I have been the one holding the head still for athletes who have had a neck injury - and it is very very scary. I try to keep them as calm as possible and let them know that they are in good "hands".

I am so glad that you are back to normal and that you didn't have any major long term damage.

Thanks for sharing your story - it is unique and a great addition to the site.
