Back to Sports (discuss and shot after ACL Reconstruction)

I just had ACL surgery done using a hamstring graft. I want to know if there are any dangers with doing discus and shotput in track and field. I will begin track in January.

By January you will be around 4 months out from surgery. That is usually when you can start doing more types of exercises, but probably a little too early to go all out - shot and discus require a bit of twisting and turning, so that could be a problem. I would think that by the start of Track season you should be very close to full strength and ready to go...of course, it all depends on your doctor's philosophy on when he releases patients for full sports, and how hard you work on your rehab between now and then.

Good luck with your recovery!
