synvisc

Synvisc may help to alleviate some pain, but it depends on how much articular cartilage damage there is. If the knee is completely bone on bone, with no articular cartilage left, then the results are usually not as good. If it is bone on bone with the loss of the meniscus but the articular cartilage is still intact and just damaged or deteriorating, then synvisc injections may help to prolong the life of the knee and reduce pain and inflammation.

Each person's knee responds differently to the injections as well. Some may have resolution of pain for several months, others may only have decreases of pain for a few days or weeks.
