Brendan's ACL surgery

Hey my name is Brendan, I partially tore my ACL in early 2008 playing Rugby League, after seing many doctors over the course of 6 months it wasn't until i went and saw my physiotherapist that he told me i had torn my ACL, I then was suppose to see my surgeon at the hospital but due to a mix up i ended up seing and indian doctor who told me I would be fine in a few days, well he was very wrong, I went back to Rugby League to early and completely snapped my ACL this time.

So now ive been on the public waiting list cos i didnt have the money to get the operation privately, after nearly 2 years of waiting and being told different stories my knee is finally being reconstructed...

I have already my Miniscus repaired and that operation went really well....

I am just wondering if anyone knows the difference between getting the Patella Tendon Graft or the Hamstring Graft.....

any advice on the two would be much appreciated...

PATELLA!
by: Anonymous

Hi Brendan,

I'm not sure how long ago this was posted but I was just looking online to see how long the waiting list was in Australia. I re-tore my ACL in November after tearing it the October before. I used a cadaver because it was done in the USA. But before I made my decision I did extensive research and everyone - trainers, patients, doctors, physios - said the Hamstring should be the third option with Patella the first. The Patella is the strongest tendon and while you may have some issues kneeling they aren't that big a deal from what I understand. When I eventually get mine again I am going Patella. The hamstring is not very strong and causes a lot of issues with the hamstring you get done I guess. Hope this helps! Good Luck.
