Brenda's ACL & Medial Meniscus Repair

by Brenda

I had my surgery on 7/26. I honestly don't know what I did to cause the injury. I had a slight pain when I stepped wrong getting onto an airplane, my doctor thought I tore my calf muscle. Then a week later I lifted my right leg to stop over a baby gate and down I went. The emergency room also said I tore the calf muscle, but sent me to an Orthopedic Surgeon and lo and behold tore the ACL and the Meniscus. I had the cadaver ACL put in and the Meniscus repaired.

After surgery I was 6 weeks with no weight on my left leg. I finally started being able to walk on the 7th of September. I am still doing PT 3 times a week, but starting this past weekend, my entire leg has started swelling for no reason. Even my foot and toes are swollen.

This has been a long recovery, basically because of the damage to the meniscus. Would have been easier short term if they removed it, but would have been bad long term.

I didn't have the pain that everyone else is talking about. I quit taking any pain medicine the week after surgery. The CPM was a life saver and I will actually miss it. It is being picked up next week. I switched to Aleve. I am concerned about the swelling this long after surgery. I go back to doctor next week, so we will see what he says, my PT is a little concerned too!
