Hi! I was wondering if you could help me. I broke my left distal fibula (spiral fracture) on February 4, 2008. There was not any surgery needed. I had a cast for six weeks and then an ankle brace for another eight weeks. Also, went for physical therapy for one month. Each week, things were progressing nicely. However, after six weeks with the brace, my muscle (around the part of the ankle that sticks) still hurt! The bottom of the brace seemed to end right there. After eight weeks, I thought that maybe the muscle was being constricted and not able to heal properly. So, at that point I removed the brace. After, a few days the muscle didn't hurt anymore! Yea!
This goodness went on for another two weeks. This would be around mid June. I thought I was in the clear. However, since then my muscle switches back and forth, either hurting for a day or two and then feeling fine for the next few days only to return to hurting again! I don't quite get it. I've paid attention to see if there is a pattern as to when it hurts (like the different weather systems passing through), but there does not seems to be any. It has a mind of its own and does it when it feels like. Unfortunatley, I am on my feet all day as I
am a glorified waiter. The more walking I have to do in a day
the more it seems to hurt. That would be the only pattern. Some days, though, I don't walk a lot and it still hurts. I am also 38 years old and the orthopedic doctor says everyone heals differenly...which makes sense but, I have not progressed to being without pain for three months. Do you think it might always be this way (like an old football injury that "acts up"
every one in awhile)? I know if I go back to the doctor he'll just say that things take time. Help! Thank you.
John
