Bruised (I think) hand from batting

by bob
(Caseyville, Illinois USA)

I was batting in a senior league baseball game and hit an inside pitch. Big time pain for about an hour after that in the web of the hand (between thumb and index finger).

I was using a wood bat and we played in a drizzle the whole game so the ball was heavier than normal.

I tried using a protective guard - the kind that slides over the thumb - but when i grip the bat the pressure from the device was painful.

If i squeeze i get a little pain around the sesamoid bone but most of the pain seems to be in tissue between thumb an index.

Could this be just a bruise that needs rest?

thanks!

Could be a bruise
by: Bart - SII

It does sound like it could be a bruise from batting - I would keep an eye on it for a few days, and if it gets worse, or doesn't improve with rest and ice, get in to see your doctor.
