I am 16 years old and i play REP soccer. I was at soccer practice one Monday night about a month ago, and we had done the normal run and stretch. During one of our first drills I was sprinting and quickly tried to change direction as I received a pass. Suddenly, I heard/felt a pop in my knee as i fell to the ground and knew something had just gone terribly wrong. It felt okay to bend but as soon as i tried to put pressure on it, it would buckle and cause extreme pain.
I immediately iced and saw a doctor. Luckily I was able to get an MRI very quickly (I live in Canada). They had only thought i tore my meniscus, but as i soon found out it was MUCH, MUCH worse! My whole ACL was torn and I needed surgery ASAP. This to me was devastating. My whole life is sports. Luckily I know the surgeon and was able to get in within a couple weeks.
My surgery is this Thursday, in 5 days (June 10th)! They are doing a hamstring graph. I'm pretty nervous and scared but am also thrilled to get it over with so I can recover and get back to playing soccer and basketball. Unfortunately I will miss my final high school year of basketball, but I will be good for next soccer season. I am very sad about my injury, as I'll definitely be missing out on many things this summer! Wish me luck...
