Caught knee (meniscus tear, no surgery)

I have been diagnosed about six months ago with a small medial meniscus tear. I opted not to run out and have surgery and have been trying to do rehab. Squatting or sitting with my legs behind me is impossible right now without my knee catching. When this happens it is impossible to walk or to straighten my knee without a considerable amount of pain.

It is now to the point where it does not want to let loose at all. As I type this I am sitting here trying to release my knee. Do I go to the emergency room or call my orthopedic doctor when they open in the morning?

What if it catches and won't release at all?

recheck with your doctor

The locking you are experiencing could be from the meniscus tear - sometimes the torn portion of the meniscus can get caught between the articular surfaces of the joint and cause catching and locking of the knee.

I would recheck with your physician and explore your treatment options - which will likely include surgery for the best outcome.
