Col's ACL reconstruction

by Colin

Hi all,

had my ACL reconstruction done about 4 weeks ago now and also had keyhole suregery at the same time. At first the pain was bad and now it has been more discomfort more than anything, until last night. I woke up at about 3 in the morning with an unbearable pain in the operated leg. The pain was coming from the inside underneath of my knee. I have never been stabbed but thats how i would describe the pain, someone stabbing my knee.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I personally think it could be down to me returning to work and being on my feet all day but it wasn't until last night i felt it and can still feel it now, over 12 hours since the pain started. I am now back using a crutch which i havn't used in almost 2 weeks because every time i now take a wrong step or put to much weight on it, its agony.

Any advice, help or previous experiences would be very great.

Col

4 weeks with pain
by: Bart - SII

As frustrating as it is, an increase in pain at 4 weeks is not uncommon. Your body is still very much in the healing stage, and increases in activity - like going back to work or being on your feet a lot - can cause an increase in pain. The good news is that that is usually just a minor speed bump in your recovery - you will have a few of these as you go along, almost everyone does.

Take it easy for a few days, keep up with your therapy, and stay positive...you will make it through.
