Dawn 40 and still going! awaiting ACL surgery

by Dawn Ashcroft

Hi thanks for a fab website. I injured my ACL skiing about 10 years ago. I was really fit at the time so increased the strengthening exercises and kept going replacing the skiing with snowboarding!! Anyway children came along and I played less and less sport. Things have gone downhill and the last 6 weeks have been a nightmare with my knee giving way several times a day! Just got MRI scan results and my knee is a bit of a mess! Awaiting surgery date....

Everyones comments have been really helpful but in a different way - I am really up for surgery seeing it as a positive way forward and excited about all the things I'll be able to do again (like run).

Reading the stories has been a reality check as I realize this won't be a "walk" in the park! (My approach to life is "it'll be right!") Still up for it though so I'll no doubt log back on when I'm sat resting and in pain!!!!

Great Outlook!
by: Bart - SII

Your outlook is exactly what you need for your upcoming surgery, and for life. The motivation you have and the faith that everything will be alright will serve you well.

ACL reconstruction is not a cake walk, but a positive mindset goes a long way in getting you through it. It does take time, and a lot of hard work, but you have a lot to look forward to once you get through your rehab.

Keep us posted on your recovery!
