Driving after Medial Meniscus Repair?

I saw my Doctor for my post op visit and he really confused me. He began the visit by asking if I had begun to bear weight yet. I had been told not to bear weight and reminded him of that. He just went on with the exam.

He then prescribed PT 3 times a week for the next 4 weeks all non weight bearing.I then asked when I would be able to drive and he told me to do one week of PT and go ahead and try to drive without the brace of course. I am all for driving because I am sick of being stuck at home but I am scared that it will cause more damage. Is this a possibility?

i don't think I will be driving in the next week because I am only able to bend my knee 40 degrees and my quad is visibly small than my left making me believe that it is weaker. I would just like some feedback about the driving. I guess I should include it is my right knee I had my Medial Meniscus Repair on.

The pressure exerted with normal driving (not having to forcefully slam on the breaks) probably would not affect the repair. However, the control of the leg, the reaction time and strength to be able to drive safely likely won't be there for another few weeks. Especially since you are still NWB, which means that your quads won't build back up until you can start really using them again.

I always told my patients that they should only drive once they feel safe, and to consider that if you are in an accident and you body is not fully functional, you could be held at fault.
