I thought I should share my story since my story is so different. I injured my knee on floor excersize during a gymnastics competetion in January 2009. My knee totally dislocated on a landing. MRI showed a dent in my femur and torn ACL. I had surgery one month after the injury. Surgery took almost 4 hours due to the femur. I did patella tendon graft for the ACL and the femur required a bone graft due to it being caved in. I am 6 weeks post op and I just now got off crutches. I was not allowed to do any weight bearing at all because I had to protect the bone graft. Doctor said I could wean off crutches but it wasn't a problem at all. The only time that I have pain is when I am bending past 90 to get range of motion back. I went swimming and road a bike for the first time this week without any pain or problems. I did have a few minor problems after surgery. Started off that the nerve block didn't work, then discovered I was having a reaction to the tape that they use on your eyes during surger, then could not take pain meds they caused to much vomiting, 5 days of vomiting not fun. Doctor said I can train uneven bars now but no landings or anything. He said I will be ready to compete next season which starts in January. I was really upset to loose my senior year in high school but I do have 4 more years of college gymnastics!!
