Fib-Tib hardware Removal after 15yrs avg recovery time

I had 9 screws and a plate removed from my left ankle 8 days ago that had been in there for 15 years. I feel great but am in a full cast that is driving me crazy from my toes to my knee. I really feel like I can walk and have even taken a few steps(nothing serious, just from the couch to the refrig). I have a doctor's appt 2 days from now and am wondering what you think they are going to move me to. I need to get out of the cast!! Thoughts and experiences on next steps and recovery times?

Likely expect an X-ray to make sure everything looks good, and perhaps (hopefully) transitioning into a walking boot for 2-3 weeks. That is just a guess - physicians all have their own philosophies on how to treat these types of procedures - some will go immobilization and non-weightbearing, others will go with weight bearing to tolerance.
