im 16, and a junior in high school. over the summer of 2010, i was at soccer camp. it was the last day, semi final game, and we were up by one. a girl shot from outside the 18, and i jumped to stop the shot. i ended up stopping the ball with my left leg in the air, but when i landed down with all my weight on my right leg, it gave out and i heard a pop. i have had a lot of injuries, but never anything with my knees, so i was terrified. i screamed and started bawling. the coachs and trainers came out and carried me off. within 15 minutes i was fine and i could walk. they wouldnt let me go in the game agin though.
later when we went home, i took a nap, and when i woke up i couldnt walk so my mom took me to the er. they took an xray and said i was fine, and sent me home, and to use my crutchs.
one week later i had an mri done, they said it was a partial tear in my acl and meniscus. so i knew i was out for the season.
a week after that, my doctor did an evaluation on my knee and said it was stable that i didnt need my crutches. and then 2 weeks later he told me i could start running. i ran one width of the soccer feild with no pain, but the rest of the week, my knee killed.
so we had another mri done, and took it up to rochester, for a knee speacialst to see. he took one look at it and told me i had a complete tear in my acl and a partial tear in my meniscus. i had surgrey for days later.
surgery was on homecoming weekend, the same day as the dance. i did go, but i went to the games to cheer on my school. its been three weeks since surgery, and im walking fine, riding a bike, and above average with my PT. everything is going as planned.
tearing my acl was the worst thing ever, it took me out of 3 varsity sports. plus all the extras.(i play varsity soccer, basketball, track. indoor soccer, travel soccer, travel softball, and sumemr basketball.) but im glad that it happened when it did, instead of my senior year or in college.
so it took, 6 weeks, 2 doctors, an xray, and 2 mri's for an "obvious" acl tear and meniscus tear.
but my friends and family have been the most supportive through this whole process. :)
