gone backwards after 8 months!!??

by lloydy
(North England)

I'm currently 8 months post op from a hamstring graft ACL recon. Everything was going to plan and I've actually been in non contact sports training for around 2 months now. In the past week I've started to have sudden sharp pain on the back side of the knee, just below the hamstring. My knee also seems to have tightened up and when I put it to full flextion there is some pain in the back and whole area feels very tight. I'm off to see the doctor soon but thought I'd ask if anyone has suffered something similar?

Thanks.

I had the same issue! NEW
by: Baileigh

I also had this problem.. I was discharged from therapy and all of a sudden my progress stopped and I began to regress back to not being able to get full flexion without a lot of pushing. I went to my doctor and another MRI was done. He told me that I would need another surgery to see if there was anything. I ended up having a very rare complication of the ACL surgery. It's called a cyclops lesion and it's scar tissue wrapped around the acl graft. It causes pain when you bend and prevents full extension. After that was removed I was back to softball after another few months of therapy. Just something for you to ask your doctor about!

hopefully not much to worry about NEW

How far are you post op? I wouldn't worry about a little swelling, it's prob just the joint not used to such activity. I would just ice it after sport until it settles down which it should quite quickly.

Hopefully not much to worry about NEW

My doctor said it could be caused by fluid which is still around the joint causing a little swelling. The swelling is on the side where a little meniscus was cut away, he says this can lead to irratation and a little swelling. All in all nothing to worry about, take anti-inflammitires to get the swelling down he said.

I seen a physio today who said stretching of the hamstrings would ease the difficulties, as well as that we are working on getting full flextion.

Let me know how it goes.

Lloyd.
