Hard feel on my knee cap . . .

I was playing indoor basketball and got tripped from behind and fell knee cap first, mind you it wasn't that hard of a fall . . . i didn't have any intense pain but as I got up I had a wierd feeling in my knee which can compared to hitting the "funny bone" in your elbow . . . i came out of the game, had no swelling or discoloration, but that wierd feeling stayed and if i bended my knee at certain i felt pain . . . i could jump up and down lightly and run up and down, so i finished playing the game taking it easy . . . i iced the knee after coming home and at night also, in the morning my knee, still no swelling or pain at touch or discoloration, however it felt heavy and weak and pain was there when i was to bend the knee or to put weight on it when walking or going up stairs . . . i got a knee brace and it feels much stronger and movement is better . . . what i am thinking and hoping is that i only have bruise around my knee cap as i played thru it after the fall? what do you think? is there still a chance for a tear? i guess time will tell also as it is only day 2 of my injury . . .

knee injury

any direct blow to the front of the knee can cause irritation of the area - meaning a contusion of the soft tissue, the bone, and nerves in the area. Ice and rest are a good idea, but if it doesn't get any better in the next day or two, a visit to the doctor for an evaluation is a good idea.
