Heather's Surgery
I originally tore my acl when I was 15, playing soccer in gym. I had no idea, just thought it was a little painful but I walked it off. I played in a softball game that afternoon with no incident, a little bit of pain, but I thought it was the equivalent of a rolled ankle. I played on a summer basketball team as well as a different travel team. I went away on a tournament weekend and played a total of 30 seconds. At the hospital, they told me it was an acl tear, and to visit the orthopedic surgeon. Once there, he told me to jump up and down 3 times. After I did so, he said there was nothing wrong. No MRI was done. After 6 months of basketball, and weekly hospital visits, my regular physician decided it was time for an MRI after seeing how swollen my knee was. My ACL was torn, as well as my medial and lateral menisci. I had the surgery on my 16th birthday using my patellar tendon. Now, 5 years later, my ACL was shredded yet again, from basketball. I had surgery on December 31, this time using a cadaver achilles. Great way to spend New Years Eve after having just turned 21. It is now January 6, and I can put partial pressure on it. I use crutches, and can bend to 70 degrees with no pain, as well as do straight leg raises. I see the doctor on Friday and hope he is going to give me good news on when I can bend unlock this brace.
