Help! Hip Flexors? Adductors?

I really hope you can help.

I'm having a big problem with my hips. I have virtually no flexibility when trying to open my legs in the box splits position. It really hurts!

In all other directions I have no pain and excellent flexibility.

I have visited sports physio's and chiropractors and carried out the "feet together push down on the inside of the knees" stretch for weeks with zero improvement.

I am very active and participate in grappling upto 4/5 times a week.

Help!

John

hip flexibility

Your problem may not reside in your muscles, but rather in your hip joints. The hip capsule can become tightened, and restrict joint motion. Unfortunately, stretching of the muscles will do little to help with this.

You could talk to your doctor or therapists regarding using joint mobilization to improve your range of motion.
