Help with knee injury

by Mike
(Philly)

About 1 year ago I injured my knee while playing basketball. I came down awkwardly from a jump and felt like I hyper extended it. The knee swelled and I was unable to straighten it for a few weeks. I now have regained full mobility within the knee and the swelling has subsided. However, every now and then when playing basketball, my knee will buckle after coming down from a jump. Also, when doing leg extensions at the gym, I can feel 1 or 2 clicks in the back of only this knee.

Again, I'm pain free, but I fear that there may be some underlying injury that has never healed. Your help is greatly appreciated with this matter.

Knee buckling
by: Bart - SII

If you walked into my clinic and told me your story as above, the first thought that would come into my mind was you had torn your ACL. The initial injury and symptoms you describe plus the buckling and occasional clicking all lead to possible ACL injury. I would get it looked at and figure out what is wrong for sure.
