Hip Flexor injury

by Jay
(Mountain View, CA)

I think I have pulled my hipflexor muscle while doing sprints. It flared up 1.5 days after I did the run. That was 3 weeks ago. I did some light running in the first week while icing it multiple times over the day. I didn't do any running for the past 2 weeks. I got on a stationary bike instead and biked without pain. I have iced it multiple times everyday.

It is most painful when I do lunges and when pulling my knee to the chest.

When will the pain subside - what more do I need to do to allow it to subside and what stretches can I do to help it. Should I go see a PT?

Thanks
Jay

I would see a doctor...

If this injury had only been bothering you for a few days, then I would recommend ice, stretching, and rest and see how it goes. Since it has been 3 weeks, you probably should get it looked at by your doctor, get a good evaluation, and then perhaps a referral for rehab. That will be the best course of action to take care of this and get back to activities pain free.
