hip flexor - when to return to sport

My daughter has a hip flexor strain from soccer. She has been off the sport now for 5 days. The pain has subsided. Is it safe for her to warm up, stretch and return to normal play?

After a hip flexor injury, the important thing to remember is to gradually increase activities. This injury has a high tendency to recur, and so making sure that you work back into normal unrestricted activities can help to prevent that.

She needs to make sure she is warming up well, stretching her hip flexors and hamstrings and hips, and should probably spend at least one or two practice days in light activity before going all out.

Pain should be gone and should not return - if it does, she likely is doing to much too soon.

And if she continues to have pain, get in to see your doctor for an evaluation.
