HIp flexor/adductor injury

I have a gradual onset pain in my right groin that sometimes radiates up to my hip. It gives me pain when I walk, though only low grade pain, nothing that substantially interferes with walking, but sometimes climbs up into my hip and glutes and makes it difficult to sleep. If I make a figure four with my right ankle across my left knee, pushing down on the right knee causes pain.

Does this sound like a hip flexor (the off-the-cuff over the phone diagnosis of a friend who's an orthopedist) or an adductor? As I say, the pain is primarily in my groin rather than in my hip.

I've made an appointment to see a sports doctor (my friend the orthopedist is in another state) and want to know the right questions to ask him.
