Hip pain for years

by Leanne
(Concord, NC)

I am a very active soccer player and i will be going to college for soccer this coming fall, but every time i run long distances or kick a ball just a few times my hip is killing me in the flexor area. This has been going on for almost 4 years now.

I have been to a doctor (with no real diagnosis) and done phyiscal therapy (for months at a time) and many different stretches, nothing seems to help, it just continues to re-occur.

Would doing an MRI help diagnose? or should i just battle through it?

I have tried wrapping also during games and practices, but this is very costly to buy bandages for every day practice.

please help!

thanks,
Leanne

An MRI may help...
by: Bart - SII

An MRI may be a good idea, seeing as you have had this pain for a long time without any noticeable improvements with therapy.

You could have a labral tear, which may or may not show up on the MRI. Or there could be something else going on in the hip that has not yet been diagnosed.

It would probably also be good to have a full evaluation by an ATC or PT to look at your foot mechanics, flexibility, hip and low back mobility, as all of these things can contribute to hip pain as well.

Hope this helps - comment back with other questions.
