Hip pain (kicking, internal / external rotation)

I am a 55 yo male, right footed, playing soccer with my kids. I miss hit a passing kick with my left leg, hitting the ground instead. My leg was externally rotated and felt immediate pain in the groin area and it continues to hurt (one year later). I can run without too much pain, albeit with a shortened stride. The pain that is most consistent is when I externally or internally rotate my left hip. I believe that it is a hip flexor injury and it is helped when I do quad stretches. The question I have is, is it worthwhile to have an MRI or just proceed to have physical therapy evaulate?

Thanks, Chris

MRI vs. PT
by: Bart - SII

I would recommend seeing your doctor for an evaluation and then determining your course of action. Because it is over a year old, an MRI likely would show old damage / scaring if there was any, but would not change the course of treatment. You would probably benefit from rehab to work on improving flexibility/mobility restrictions, and functional strength.

See your doctor and they will be able to direct you to the best course for treatment.
