Hip Pain (Right Leg)

by Henry
(Ottawa Ont.)

I was doing leg stretching in taekwondo in July.
I had my leg up on my partners shoulder as he slowly went higher.
I had done this many times without problem.
I perhaps went too high but did not feel any problem until a few days later.
The pain caused me to limp for four to five months.
The doctor at the sports medecine clinic said it was osteoarthritis.
I NEVER had this problem ever in the hips and doubted this.
I looked at your diagram with the two red circles on the hips.
That is exactly where the pain is and it feels like a pinched nerve.

How long before this goes away.
Are there good exercises for it?
Is it possible to injure your hip flexor and for it to take a long time to heal?

Osteoarthritis could be possible, but it seems you are describing a more muscular pain. You could have some mobility restrictions in your hip causing the pinching feelings.

Have you considered trying a round of rehabilitation with a therapist? This may help to find any mobility or flexibility restrictions, and any muscle imbalances that could be contributing to the problem.
