I Tore My ACL While FENCING!

Who knew that fencing could lead me to tear my ACL.
Prior to my shocking discovery that I tore my ACL, I didn't know much about this VERY common (apparently) sports' injury.

Hi, I'm Garbis, I'm 38.
I was in a match in my fencing class, and before the class ended, I advanced and while lunging, my shin and foot landed slightly inward, but my body followed through with my advancing knee, I almost saw the twisting of my knee through my pants...and I heard a cracking sound, and I felt a sudden pain....I fell.

Now, I'm done with my surgery, it's been almost over a month. I just started physical therapy. I'm going twice a week, but I'm doing most of the routines at home.

I am worried because I am unsure whether I will get back being 100% without having any limitations, even after the nine months time-period given to me by my doctor for the full recovery.

Now, I'm actually even thinking of changing the physical therapist and go to a more advanced and specialized facility. Don't know if that would make a significant difference, I guess, I just don't want to have any missteps in this very critical recovery period.

Take it slow and keep positive... NEW

Doubts about whether you will ever get back to where you were prior to injury are something that everyone who has an ACL reconstruction will deal with at some point or another.

Surgery just a month ago, you are still in the "infant" stages of the recovery - of course right now it doesn't feel like you will ever get there, but it will get better.

Working with a clinician who has experience with rehabbing ACL reconstructions in athletes is very helpful - they will push you harder and be more attentive to your wishes to get back to a high level of activity. Keep up with your exercises at home and you should do well.
