Partial ACL tear and prolotherapy NEW
by: diverdsea@yahoo.com

My daughter had a partial tear of her ACL and a large meniscus tear. She went to see Dr Tallman in AZ and had prolotherapy on her ACL and MCL and PRP protein enriched platlets on her meniscus. The meniscus healed with the help of Sam-e too. She is now playing soccer and back to track after 3 1/2 months. Better than surgery if you have a partial tear.

She is still building her muscles up on her affected side.

Knee update NEW
by: James Eddleston

Hello all.

Ive just come back from a 3 week trip snowboarding and am happy to say it all went fine, i did buy myself a donjoy armor knee brace befor i left for that extra bit of security when i was jumping and doing the boxes. this brace worked a treat, was comfortable and when ridding did not feel like anything more than a knee pad which i am already used to wearing, its super light weight and would recomend it to anyone looking for this type of brace.

still!! before i left i was in the gym alot building back the leg muscles but i still have quite a while to go untill the muscle are in prime condition

regards

James Eddleston

muscle building NEW
by: Bart - SII

Some of the best exercises for the lower extremity, in my opinion, are squats, lunges, and step ups. You can look through the rehab section of the site for a few examples.

It takes forever to build your muscle back up to normal size - much longer than it took to lose it thats for sure. Just keep plugging away at your exercises, it will come back.

Thank you very much for the advice, i have recently joined a local gym and in the process of building the muscles up around it.

I didn't mention before but i also toar my cartiledge whcih is another issue im trying to deal with.

Also my leg muscles have shrunk badly been doin the exercises from my pyhsio but are there any other types of exercises to help build these muscles up around my knee, and also how long does it take for muscles to genrally grow back? getting a bit sick of my stick leg!

Try a google search for "derotation knee brace" NEW
by: Bart - SII

The most common type of knee brace for use with after an ACL reconstruction is a derotation brace. They come in either custom built or off the shelf designs, and are fairly sturdy and bulky. This would be the best supporting brace for snowboarding, and really the only one that would give you any real support.

They are terribly expensive, so if your insurance won't pay for most of it, you are probably better off spending an extra 2-3 months in the gym working to get your strength back up than spending it on the brace.

I am a firm believer in rehab and strengthening rather than putting post ACL patients in a brace. I don't think that any of my ACL patients in the last 3 years have worn a brace when returning to activities - and these include football, soccer, basketball, skiing, and rugby athletes.

Hope this helps - comment back with other questions.
