Jammed finger discoloration

I jammed my finger today. It is the left hand ring finger. There is the predictable stiffness but only minor pain. There was a bruise on the outer knuckle at first and then the second knuckled started swelling.

I have iced it a number of times during the day but am a little concerned because it has discoloration. My wife thinks my wedding band is causing a problem and even though it is more snug than usual, I can turn it around the finger without too much effort.

I don't want to have the ring cut off as we've been married 41 years and it's the ring I got on the first day.

If you can take it off, do...

If you can take your ring off, you should. Your finger is likely to continue to swell, and if it comes to a point where the ring starts to cut off circulation, it will have to be cut off - If you can remove it now, I would recommend it - then you can put it back on once the swelling subsides.

I would also recommend an X-ray to make sure you do not have a small fracture in the finger.

Thanks Bart

I would have taken it off but I got it when I was about 35-40 pounds lighter and getting it off is a chore in normal times. Luckily thus far I still have circulation so here's hoping.

Thanks for your input.
