Hello my name is Jillian and im 13 years old in the seventh grade. I have "weak" ACLs basically genetically defective ACLs. My left ACL is partially torn while my right is at a high risk of tearing. I have seen two Orthopedic surgeons over the course of about three years the first telling me I had Plika and the second having me get an MRI and finding out about my weak ACLs. Right now i am doing physical therapy exercises to try to strengthen the muscles around my knees to postpone tearing. I play soccer and because of my birthday (July 3rd) I play in the group of girls that are the same age as me just a grade ahead, so next year when I am in eighth grade they will be off at high school playing on high school teams while i am left team-less. During that year of eighth grade it would seem like a good idea to get surgery so i am not effecting my high school play with sports. I will probably go to another doctor and get his/her opinion before surgery but assuming that i am getting surgery next year is kinda scary and i was hoping to hear how all of this works. IF any of you out there would like to give me advise or anything please leave a comment!! Also I just had a few questions:
1. If i got surgery during the school year how long would i be in the hospital/ at home before being able to return to school?
2.What is surgery like?
3. Do you feel pain when you awake from surgery?
4. Before the surgery if you had to get your knee scoped what was that like?
5. If you were awake during the scoping was it painful?
6. could you walk after the scoping?
