Jim's timber tibia

This isn't exactly sports related, it happened at work, but this site has some excellent information and stories, so I thought I'd share.
I am a logger, lumberjack, whatever the term you want to use, I cut down trees. In February 2009 I broke my tibia at work, a fallen tree kicked up and hit it. I had the full leg cast only for 2 weeks and went to a cast to the knee for 2 months and then a walking boot until the middle of June. I was lucky in the fact that is was a fairly simple(?) and clean break and required no surgery. I am doing physical therapy, riding my bike and walking as much as I can, but my ankle is what gives me the most trouble and pain. Originially I thought I'd be returning to work in 3-4 months, but it has been close to 7 now and still will be a month at least until I can get back, if then. It is a very strenuous, physicially demanding and dangerous job, so I have to be close to 90-100% able to get around. I'm not happy to see every ones else's pain and similar stories on recuperating, but it helps to know I'm not the only one wondering why it is taking so long to heal. I have talked to co-workers and I can tell from their comments and attitudes that they think I am 'milking it' and should have been back to work. I am 54, am otherwise in great health and shape and I eat well, but I think my age has quite a bit to do with it. My 54 year old body doesn't respond to my 25 year old mind like it used to.
Thanks for listening!
