Katie's ACL Surgery

by Katie

Hi, I am 27 years old and partially tore my ACL in summer 2008, then went
back to playing sports and completely tore it, along with a locked bucket
handle meniscus tear, playing football (soccer) in summer 2009.
I had my ACL reconstruction surgery Feb 1st 2010.
The 1st 2 weeks were very painful for me. But it was not the knee that was
painful but the bruising, the brace they had on my leg pressing on the
bruising was the most painful!
Unfortunately this set me back quite a bit and has prolonged my recovery
time. I still only have a 67 degree bend in the knee, but am now walking
without crutches and a brace which is great. My recovery seems a bit
slower than other people and I think it will probably be another 6
months until I am fully back to sports, but everyone is different.
Good luck to everyone who has had and is having the surgery. It is tough
in the beginning but perservere, there are a lot of other people in the
world a lot worse off!!
Katie :-)
