Kelly's ACL Surgery

I recently tore my acl playing tennis. The MRI Shows a complete tear. My doctor said that it would be best to get the surgery done. I am really stuck though between several decisions.

The first is whether to use the ACL hamstring, or one from a corpse. I am also not sure when to do the surgery. I am now a high school senior who was planning on playing collegiate tennis and that may not be possible due to the length of the recovery time. I also am bummed out that I can't work out for that long of a period of time, because that is a big part of my life.

I also don't know who would be the best surgeon to perform the surgery. I'm not sure what to do at this point, and am really confused. If anyone has any answers to any of my questions it would be greatly appreciated.

Read up on ACL NEW
by: Cathlyn

It's confusing because it's all new to you.
I suggest you read up about it as much as possible.
There are some great web sites, like this one, and http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk.

Sports Injury Info is great because you can ask another PT for ideas and information.

Also, you can find out more details about the actual surgery on YouTube- animations are best- less scary and they explain more. Try this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTV5Yo3E7VQ&feature=channel

Get a sports surgeon who has done a lot of ACL reconstructions. If you are not happy- get a second opinion. I did, and very glad too.

Unfortunately, this is an injury that takes a lot of time to heal right. You can still excercise prior to surgery- in fact, my doc insisted on it.
I feel great prior to my surgery now. Mostly, you just need to get informed.

Good luck!
