knee arthoscopy and still having pain in front of knee

by asperry

I've had arthroscopy done for chondromalacia on July 18. I am still having pain in front of my knee and lots of swelling. it has been 7 plus weeks since surgery. Is this normal or should I be concerned that there is something else wrong? This is with my left knee.

Two years ago I had the same arthroscopy done on my right knee. I am a runner and I was able to run by the 4th week post surgery. It is week 7 and I can't run yet with this surgery. Is there a problem here? I've done rehab and am doing my leg strengthening exercises daily.

Thanks!
A.S.

Depends on the severity

7 weeks and still having some pain isn't uncommon, especially if the chondromalacia in your knee was significant. This is probably the difference between this surgery and your previous surgery. Recovery is going to be very dependent upon how bad the degeneration was and how much work was done. Keep up with the rehab and things should continue to get better. And talk to your doctor if you have concerns about your progress.
