Knee Pain/Soreness One-Year Post ACL Surgery

by Elizabeth

It's one-year since I had my ACL reconstruction (with an allograft)and also repair of a small tear in my meniscus. No complications from surgery and my period of physical therapy (through December) went very well and I was able to get back to all my normal activities quicker than expected. I was able to go back to skiing in February with no problem. I do still have some pain/soreness in my knee and at the graft site. Is this typical one-year post-surgery?

Elizabeth - Thank you for the encouraging words. I had the allograft almost 1 month ago & these past few days have been utter HELL. I am glad to know there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.

i have the same problem. it's not so much in my knee, it's all the muscles sorrounding my knee, and they will sometime give out on me. I know for a fact its my muscles and not my knee because cutting and jumping does not hurt it, but soreness afterwards. I'm looking for an answer, so if you know anything, e-mail me at quats0@gmail.com, thanks

I was able to go back to spinning classes about 7 weeks post-surgery (and was wearing semi-high heals on a limited basis two-months post-surgery). Two-months post-surgery I was able to walk pretty normally most of the time.

Reinjury

My son had his ACL reconstruction surgery 9 months ago. He was playing in a pickup basketball game and his knee gave way and it twisted. He will need to have another MRI to see what damage might have been done. Has anyone had that situation where your knee buckles even though you have had the surgery?

a 2nd surgery this Friday
by: Rebecca

I couldn't figure out where to post a new question/comment, so here goes.

I had my ACL reconstruction & lateral meniscus repair on 4/14, and in June I felt that infamous "pop". Since then I had asked the Dr to recheck everything. FINALLY I had one of his associates do a 2nd opinion, he agreed with the first surgeon that it would be best to go in & remove the meniscus that was previously repaired & to remove the screws. I have pockets of fluid that have now formed around the screws. The pain is constant.

Has anyone gone through something similar to this? If so, HELP!!!!

Two year post ACL

I have also had my ALC totally replaced and half my meniscus removed. its been almost 2 years since my operation and i still get soreness and stiffness in my knee on occasion. my operation went flawlessly and everything, and although my recovery time was prolonged because of my hyper extension everything else went according to plan.

I hope this soreness and stiffness is normal, as I said it only happens on occasion, but... still its slightly nerve racking.
