Knee Surgery pain 2 years later

I had meniscus tears in my right knee and it has been operated on twice in the past 15 years. The doctor said I will need a knee repalcement but not now I am too young (51).

Does this mean I have to be in pain for another ten years. I went shopping this past weekend and my knee hurt so badly I looked at it that night to see if it was swollen but all I noticed was my skin was bruising on the inside of my knee slightly below the knee. Is this common or is something weird going on. The knee hurts in the bone and sometimes the bone hurts all the way to my hip.

Therapy to strengthen the muscles around the knee and hip can sometimes help to alleviate some of the stress on the knee joint, although with degeneration, the relief can be limited.

Other options would be to look into injections such as Hyalgon or Synvisc - they can be helpful to reduce some of the pain associated with articular degeneration.
