Returning to sports should be based on your strength, balance, and endurance. Gradually working up to sports activities that are pain free, over a 2-3 week period after you are ready should be fine. Most people are able to start a return to sports after a lateral release around 3 months - some sooner, some later.

You should consult with your doctor regarding your specific time frame.
