Left ankle ORIF (pop and pain)

by Heather
(Alabama)

I broke my ankle on May 6, had ORIF on may 13 due to the swelling of turning my 180 degrees.
I am right on the mark with healing and I have been doing Physical therapy for a little over two months now.

A little over a week ago I heard a "pop" from my ankle getting up off the floor. I have been unable to do any of the PT exercises where I have to sustain my own weight.
One doctor and a Radiologist tell me that I have an Acute Fracture in my foot. While another doctor says it only scar tissue. Yet, this new pain does effect my gait, the swelling in my heal will not go down, and I get sharp pains that run through it sporadically.

I know that the nerves take quite awhile to come back to alignment. But, this is so different than anything that I was feeling before the "POP". Also when it did pop it was not throughout the complete joint like it would be from a knee popping.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Did you have an X-ray since the pop? That may be a good idea to make sure it isn't an acute fracture. I would lean more toward scar tissue as that is very very common after an ORIF.

Keep up with your therapy and make sure you communicate changes with your therapist and physician.
