Leg Bend Inwards at Knee But Not Painful but Heard Pop When Fell

by Denise Watson
(Adelaide)

I had a fall on snow skis and I heard a, or felt a, pop. It was painful then and there, but not afterwards and still not much after 3 days. I could stand and move forward but if applied to much pressure (ie. walking normally) my tibia seems to move inward whilst the femur statys still. I can move my leg up and down without pressure but am having trouble working out exactly what it is. I am in a leg brace that goes from above my ankle up to my thigh and am on crutches.

What do you think this is and what I should do??

follow up with an orthopedist
by: Bart

From your brief description, the first thing that comes to my mind is a possible ACL tear. The giving way and the pop with injury are common with this. It could also be a meniscus tear, an MCL tear, or patellar subluxation.

My best recommendation is to follow up with your doctor (or an orthopedist) for an evaluation, and an MRI. This is will give you a definite diagnosis and clear treatment options.
